TO UNLOAD THE FIREARM
(Always keep firearm pointed in a safe direction)
Completely unload the firearm immediately when you are finished
shooting or hunting (by removing primer, powder, and projectile),
or fire it into a safe backstop.
It is much easier and safer to fire any
muzzleloading firearm rather than attempt to mechanically unload it.
However, if this is impossible, or if you are uncertain that correct
components have been safely loaded, the firearm should be unloaded
in accordance with the following steps:
1. Be sure the fi rearm is always pointed in a safe direction.
2. Open the breech and carefully remove the primer, any
fragments, or priming compound from the nipple.
3. Now, using the MDM Tee-wrench, you need to remove the
breech plug system by rotating it in a counterclockwise direction.
4. Carefully elevate the muzzle and dump the powder out through
the rear of the barrel into a container.
5. Clean powder chamber area by using an MDM “LIGHTING
SOLUTIONS” saturated patch on the jag end of your ramrod, or
using other available lubricating oil. This will accomplish two
tasks: first, it will saturate any remaining powder and residue, and
secondly, it will aid in lubricating the projectile for easy removal.
6. Take your ramrod with an extension attached and place it into
the muzzle of your barrel. Gently tap the end of the rod or apply
pressure, pushing projectile out through barrel and receiver.

7. The firearm is now ready for a thorough cleaning of receiver face
and barrel bore.
